Bristol architects celebrate winning Gold and Silver Awards!
Two projects designed by NOMA architects based in Redcliffe Bristol have been awarded the ‘Building For Life’ Award by CABE the Commission for the Built Environment, the Governments advisor on architecture. To achieve 2 awards is a unique achievement by an architect in the UK this year.
The Gold award standard was achieved at Waverley Gardens, this is a
development of 66 Very Sheltered Housing apartments for elderly people in
Withywood, for Brunelcare. The scheme has been designed to assist the elderly
residents live active independent lives. Waverley Gardens offers a range of
facilities, including a restaurant, shop, advice centre, Spa and cinema, which are
also available to elderly people locally.
The Building for Life assessor thought that ‘this was an impressive use of a
difficult site which has produced a scheme that meets local needs and provides
important community resources’.
Grove House in Clifton is a development of 14 Luxury apartments designed for
Urban Creation and has won the silver award.
The BfL awards are given to projects that provide exceptionally high standards of
accommodation and facilities to their residents, are well designed, sustainable,
accessible to local amenities, and fulfil a specific local need.
The Gold standard was only achieved by 20 projects nationally this year and 35
schemes met the Silver standard.
Steve Davis of NOMA architects the designer of both of the projects that won the
awards said “ It is a great honour to be involved in a project with an enlightened
client, designing schemes where the comfort, security and happiness of the
residents is paramount. To have two such clients is excellent. The awards
demonstrate NOMA Architects commitment to achieving the highest standards
for our clients and the people who live and work in our buildings.”
The award winning schemes will receive publicity nationally, and are going to be
exhibited at an award ceremony in London in November.
