Waverley Gardens, Withywood
Noma were appointed to develop the design for a Very Sheltered Housing development on the playing fields of the former Redhouse school site on the Hartcliffe Withywood border. The development was to be designed as a dementia specialist centre, with a focus on clarity and simplicity. We developed a linked courtyard design with small groups of apartments grouped around an atrium and a courtyard garden. This design fosters a feeling of community amongst the residents within each courtyard cluster.
The development was constructed using MMC timber frame construction with pumped anhydrite screed floor with under-floor heating throughout. We achieved an BREEAM Excellent rating.
The project was handed over in October 2009.
