Winstanley House Site, Bristol
Noma were appointed by Sovereign Housing Association in 2006 to prepare concept designs for Public Consultation purposes for this key regeneration site fronting three existing roads in Barton Hill. The scheme has developed slowly since then, but in 2009 after various changes to the mix and concept, provoked by the economic climate, a scheme of 20 houses with 6 flats was Approved at Planning. The scheme aims to restore the original street pattern which had been lost when the site was developed by the Council as a Care Home in the 1970?s. A three storey feature block of the 6 flats on the corner of Queen Ann Road and Goulter Street will set up a dialogue with the new school?s architecture opposite. The housing is designed as rhythmical terraces on Queen Ann Road and Holmes Street, with coloured bays to echo their Victorian antecedents. The project will commence on site this Spring, to be built by Leadbitter.
