Green Fingers at Good Shepherd

Noma Sustainability adds Green Fingers to their Green Credentials by building a 'Secret Garden' for residents at Good Shepherd Close, Bishopston, a Sheltered Housing scheme, operated by South West charity Brunelcare.

Brunelcare has recently completed the development of four new flats together with a new lift, linking the two halves of the existing 29 flat, sheltered housing scheme. The new lift and link corridor now provides full wheelchair access to all areas of Good Shepherd Close and residents can now reach all areas of the scheme without needing to use the stairs.

Noma Architects prepared the design of the new flats, and the works are now complete, except for the 'Secret Garden Area'. Noma Sustainability were only too glad to step in to complete the job and give the residents and neighbours a party to celebrate the completion of the development.

Noma Sustainability is a Sustainable Design Consultancy and specialises in Low Energy and Sustainability Advice, preparing Code for Sustainable Homes and BREEAM Assessments for the building industry.

Associate Director Paul Thornton says "It is good to get our hands dirty with some practical help creating the new 'Secret Garden' at Good Shepherd Close, hopefully our newly acquired 'Green Fingers' will help us when we give our 'Green Advice.'"

The new secret garden will provide a quiet secluded sitting out space for residents to enjoy, providing a combination of soft planted and hard paved areas with seating, which will develop and grow to give year round colour and shelter in a previously under-used corner of the site.

Helen Joy, CEO of Brunelcare adds, "We're very grateful to Noma Sustainability for their continued support and generosity. At Brunelcare, we pride ourselves on providing high quality sheltered housing and homely environments for our tenants and I'm confident that the garden will be enjoyed by tenants and their families for many years to come."

Noma Sustainability would like to thank the residents of Good Shepherd Close, Brunelcare, Bridges Associates Landscape Architects, Chew Valley Trees, and our colleagues at NOMA Architects for their assistance with this project.
